POSITION TITLE: SPEECH PATHOLOGIST                  REPORTS TO: BUILDING PRINCIPAL

 

OVER-TIME STATUS: EXEMPT                                                             PAY GRADE: 710

 

 

JOB SUMMARY: 

Performs difficult professional work delivering instructional and clinical services to speech/language impaired children; does related work as required.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the Itinerant Services Specialist and School Principal.  Limited supervision is exercised over paraprofessionals.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Locating, identifying and serving speech/language impaired persons within designated age group.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Thorough knowledge of the principals, practices and procedures of speech and language diagnosis and therapy; thorough knowledge of casework methods and procedures; thorough knowledge of local, state and federal resources, programs, procedures, laws, rules and regulations; ability to conduct interviews, assessments and diagnosis effectively and analyze needs and problems objectively; ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff and administration.

 

This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires standing, and walking; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must hold a valid school speech-language pathologist license issued by the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (BASLP).
